India, May 30 -- India's coaching sector has come under renewed scrutiny after the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) imposed a penalty of Rs.7 lakh on Vajiram & Ravi IAS Study Centre over alleged misleading advertisements related to UPSC Civil Services Examination results.

The consumer watchdog found that the coaching institute highlighted the success of UPSC toppers and successful candidates in promotional campaigns without clearly disclosing the nature of the courses those candidates had actually attended. The move is part of a broader crackdown on misleading claims made by coaching centres targeting aspirants preparing for highly competitive examinations.
