India, Sept. 3 -- Grammy-winning jazz singer, songwriter and producer Cassandra Wilson has died at the age of 70. One of the most distinctive voices in contemporary jazz, Wilson died in her hometown of Jackson, Mississippi, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Her longtime manager Robert Torre confirmed the news, saying Wilson "transitioned peacefully at home" surrounded by family, close friends and her manager.

The cause of death has not been disclosed. Her family and close friends have asked for privacy as they mourn her loss. Wilson leaves behind a career spanning more than four decades and a musical legacy that stretched far beyond traditional jazz.
