India, Aug. 21 -- It is not all dark after all. India, hosting the BWF World Championships 2026, has finally secured one medal in this home tournament. After the Indian singles campaign ended on Thursday, the women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Pullela Gopichand opened the medal account on August 21, Friday, by defeating the world No. 4 pair of Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian in the quarterfinals.
This confirms India's first women's doubles medal at the World Championships in 15 years, since Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won a bronze medal back in 2011.
