India, June 27 -- The military government of Burkina Faso announced Friday evening that it has cut all diplomatic relations with its former colonial ruler, France, marking a final, historic rupture following years of deteriorating ties between Paris and the West African nation.

In a formal statement read out on the national television network RTB, the Burkinabe military executive declared that the total diplomatic break takes effect immediately as of June 26.
