India, Sept. 25 -- American Airlines Flight 167 executed an extraordinary operational reversal on Monday when the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner initiated a sharp directional change approximately 900 miles off the western Canadian coastline after departing from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport at approximately 11 am Eastern Time.

The aircraft, carrying 285 passengers anticipating arrival at Tokyo's Haneda Airport roughly 14 hours after departure, turned southeastward and commenced a return flight to North American airspace.

The diversion occurred seven hours into the transpacific crossing, placing the aircraft at a critical juncture where continuing to Tokyo became operationally inadvisable.
