India, Aug. 3 -- Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor Pandey on Monday scripted one of the biggest electoral upsets in recent Bihar politics, defeating the BJP in the Bankipur Assembly bypoll and ending the party's nearly three-decade hold over one of its safest urban constituencies.

He defeated the BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by almot 20000 votes while securing almost 50 percent of the polled votes. The bypoll was necessitated after BJP national president Nitin Nabin resigned the seat following his election to the Rajya Sabha.
