India, April 1 -- A major fire at a scrapyard in Birmingham sent thick plumes of black smoke billowing across the skyline on Wednesday morning, alarming residents and triggering a large-scale emergency response.
Reports of loud explosions and rapidly spreading flames added to concerns, as firefighters raced to contain the blaze and prevent further damage in the industrial area.

The fire broke out at Alexanders Wharf on Lifford Lane in Kings Norton at around 10:30 BST. According to the West Midlands Fire Service, the blaze originated within the scrapyard before spreading to a nearby timber yard.
