Bill Ritter: Veteran New York WABC Anchor Details Alzheimer's Diagnosis After Stepping Down From Decades-Long News Desk Role
India, Aug. 14 -- Veteran New York news anchor Bill Ritter has shared new details about his experience with early-stage Alzheimer's disease, weeks after he stepped away from the anchor desk he had held at WABC-TV for more than two decades.
Ritter, 76, first revealed his diagnosis on-air during Eyewitness News on 12 June, telling viewers, "After a series of tests, my doctors have told me I have Alzheimer's. It's early-stage Alzheimer's, and they say the treatments I'm getting are keeping it at bay. For now. But there is no guarantee, because there's no cure yet for Alzheimer's. So, unless someone finds an amazing cure, and soon, tonight will be the last newscast I anchor."
