India, Aug. 15 -- Batwara 1947 has got a pretty modest beginning at the Indian box office, bringing in around Rs.5.75 crore on Day 1. The Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta starrer takes audiences back to the Partition days with all those emotions, hardships and uphill battles people had to face during one of the toughest stretches in Indian history. But opening-day figures suggest it has not pulled in as many viewers as a few other big releases from the Independence Day weekend. Now, the next weekend matters a lot, since better Saturday and Sunday collections can give it momentum and eventually lift its total box office run.
