India, Nov. 6 -- Former Australian batter Michael Hussey has joined the national team's coaching setup as a consultant coach for the 2027 Ashes and ICC Men's ODI World Cup.

The 51-year-old turned down an approach from England's new Test coach Stephen Fleming before committing to a role with his home country.

Hussey will also provide support during Australia's upcoming T20I series against England and the four Test matches against New Zealand.

His appointment comes after Australia's 2-1 Test series defeat in South Africa, which exposed concerns around the team's batting, particularly during crucial passages of the contest.
