India, July 22 -- The flood situation in Assam worsened on Wednesday after continuous rainfall claimed 21 more lives in the last 24 hours, taking this year's flood death toll to 31. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 5.64 lakh people have been affected across 12 districts, while rescue and relief operations remain underway. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecast more rainfall over the coming days, raising concerns that the situation could deteriorate further.

Of the latest fatalities, 13 were reported from Sivasagar, including four women and two children. Charaideo recorded five deaths, while Golaghat and Jorhat reported two and one fatalities, respectively.
