India, Oct. 1 -- For years, tennis has been one of India's more reliable medal sports at the Asian Games. In Aichi-Nagoya, that run has finally come to an end. Sumit Nagal was the last Indian left in the draw, carrying the country's final singles medal hopes into the quarterfinals. But China's Wu Yibing, ranked 111th in the world, ended that run with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Nagal, ranked 248th, stayed with Wu for long stretches but could not find a way through the Chinese player in the decisive moments. Wu had also arrived in Nagoya after reaching the third round of the US Open last month.
