India, Oct. 24 -- NASA's Artemis III mission is expected to mark an important step in the United States' plans to return astronauts to the Moon. However, under NASA's revised mission architecture, Artemis III is no longer planned as the mission that will directly land astronauts on the lunar surface. Instead, the mission is intended to test key spacecraft and lunar landing technologies in Earth orbit before a future crewed lunar landing attempt.

The mission's schedule and objectives are important milestones in NASA's broader Artemis programme, which aims to establish a sustained human presence on and around the Moon and support future deep-space exploration.
