India, July 21 -- Thousands of households across the UK are set to receive lower electricity bills after Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced the removal of 5% Value Added Tax (VAT) on domestic electricity. The tax cut, which will take effect on October 1, forms one of Burnham's first major economic decisions after taking office.

The government says the measure will reduce household energy costs, provide immediate financial relief and help families cope with continuing cost-of-living pressures ahead of winter.
