India, May 10 -- The Indian Railways Technical Supervisors' Association (IRTSA) has proposed several major changes to salary structures, allowances and retirement benefits for central government employees, particularly railway staff.

The association has recommended introducing a separate Consumer Price Index (CPI) specifically for central government employees to calculate Dearness Allowance (DA). According to IRTSA, the current system does not fully reflect modern-day household expenses faced by employees.

The organisation said the expenditure basket used for DA calculation should now include newer essential costs such as internet bills, bottled drinking water, health insurance premiums and other lifestyle-related expenses.
