India, Nov. 5 -- Jessica Pegula has found herself at the centre of a tennis controversy ahead of the WTA Finals 2026 after a private conversation about Mirra Andreeva and her coach, Conchita Martinez, was picked up by a microphone. The American was heard questioning Andreeva's behaviour, criticising Martinez's handling of the teenager and saying the Russian needed to be "humbled".

Pegula also made a striking assessment of Andreeva's potential, suggesting she could be better than Coco Gauff if she had the American's mentality. The comments have added another talking point ahead of the season-ending tournament, which begins on November 8. Watch the full video below.
