Jammu Tawi, May 27 -- Indian Railways has facilitated the transportation of around 43 tons of fresh cherries from Jammu and Kashmir to major markets across the country so far this season, providing a boost to growers and traders.
The consignments were dispatched through parcel services using SLR and Parcel Vans in trains including 12472, 12474, 12476, 12920 and 19028, and delivered to destinations such as Surat, Bandra, Bhopal and Chhayapuri (Vadodara).
Officials said the rail-based transport system has enabled faster and safer movement of perishable fruit, ensuring better quality preservation and reduced transit losses, which in turn is helping farmers secure improved market prices.
