MHA revises immigration rules, allows flexible registration timeline
New Delhi, June 2 -- The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has notified the Immigration and Foreigners (Amendment) Rules, 2026, introducing key changes to registration timelines and the appeals mechanism under the Immigration and Foreigners Rules, 2025.
Under the amended rules, foreigners can now complete their registration at any time before the expiry of 180 days from their arrival in India. Earlier, registration was required within 14 days after the completion of the 180-day stay period.
The amendment further stipulates that registration beyond the prescribed period will be permitted only under emergent circumstances, providing limited flexibility for delayed compliance.
