India, March 26 -- The Government of India (GoI) on Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha that the establishment of Gamma Irradiation facilities in Ladakh for extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables is currently an ongoing process.
Replying to an unstarred question by MP Mohmad Haneefa, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is actively engaged in research and development related to food irradiation technologies. He stated that BARC is working on developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidelines, and improved radiation facility designs to promote wider adoption of the technology.
