NEW DELHI, Sept. 6 -- The Central Government has approved the appointment of Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, succeeding Justice Sanjeev Kumar, who has been functioning as the acting Chief Justice since June 2.

Justice Bhati is currently serving as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court. His appointment follows the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium, which proposed his name for the post on August 31.

With the Government clearing the appointment, Justice Bhati will assume charge as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
