JAMMU TAWI, Jul 30: Road accidents continue to pose a serious challenge in Jammu and Kashmir despite a decline in crashes on National Highways, with data tabled by the Centre in Parliament revealing that 1,109 accidents on NHs claimed 206 lives and left 1,658 people injured in the Union Territory during 2026. The figures come even as overall road fatalities in J&K remain high, underlining the urgent need for stronger enforcement, safer road engineering and greater public awareness.
