Jammu, May 20 -- Despite widespread public outcry over water scarcity, especially during the summer season, the alleged illegal sale of government water continues unabated in the Pouni area of Reasi district.

According to sources, some influential persons in the area are allegedly involved in the illegal sale of government water meant for public use during the peak summer season, when many households are already facing an acute shortage of drinking water.

"Several villages falling under Tehsil Pouni are witnessing severe water scarcity," sources said, adding that locals have repeatedly complained that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department has failed to ensure a regular water supply to households.
