Jammu, June 22 -- June 23, 2026 marks the 73rd martyrdom anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, one of modern India's most influential nationalist leaders, parliamentarians and educationists. Revered by his admirers as the "Lion of Parliament", Dr. Mookerjee played a significant role in shaping India's political discourse in the years immediately following Independence.

Born on July 6, 1901, in Kolkata, then the capital of British India, Dr. Mookerjee hailed from an eminent Bengali family. His father, Sir Ashutosh Mookerjee, popularly known as the "Tiger of Bengal", was a distinguished jurist and an acclaimed educationist who served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta.
