Srinagar, April 8 -- Celebrations broke out across Kashmir following the announcement of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, with many people terming it a "victory" for the Islamic Republic.

Hundreds of people, particularly in Shia-dominated areas, gathered on roads in different parts of the Valley to mark the development.

Festivities were reported from Saidakadal and Zadibal in Srinagar, as well as districts including Budgam, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Pulwama and Bandipora.

Waving Iranian flags, people celebrated the ceasefire by bursting crackers and distributing traditional Kashmiri kehwa.
