Jammu, Aug. 4 -- The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Act, 2026, was enacted after major protests over the leak of the undergraduate (UG) NEET examination paper and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The amendment aims to reduce examination-related malpractices by ensuring investigations are completed within a fixed time, and cases are tried quickly. The original Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act was enacted earlier in February 2024. Despite being in force for two years, the 2024 Act failed to secure even a single conviction, raising serious concerns about its effectiveness and enforcement.
