Jammu Tawi, April 27 -- Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Ladakh, the administration of the Union Territory on Monday created five new districts, taking the total number of districts in the UT to seven.

In a post on X, LG of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena announced the creation of five new districts. "A historic day for Ladakh. I have approved the notification for the creation of five new districts in Ladakh, fulfilling the aspirations and long-pending demand of the people of Ladakh," the LG announced.

The LG said the creation of five new districts - Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar, and Drass - means Ladakh will now have seven districts, up from the existing two.
