Chandigarh, Aug. 30 -- A 45-year-old Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, was shot dead by four armed assailants in Punjab's Mamdot town, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place in the main bazaar on Saturday evening when Singh was travelling in a car with 22-year-old Harpreet Singh alias Happy. According to police, the attackers arrived in another car, stepped out and opened fire at Singh's vehicle.
Singh and Harpreet were rushed to the Civil Hospital following the shooting. Doctors declared Singh dead on arrival.
Harpreet, who sustained injuries in the attack, was referred to a private hospital in Ludhiana for further treatment.
