SRINAGAR, April 14 -- Police in Jammu and Kashmir have arrested eight individuals for allegedly indulging in vandalism during protests sparked by a sexual harassment case involving a school lecturer in Baramulla district, officials said on Tuesday.

Authorities said a government higher secondary school lecturer in Sopore was booked on Monday following a complaint of sexual assault lodged by a female student.

In a post on its official X handle, Sopore Police said, "Sopore Police arrested 8 miscreants involved in vandalism during a student protest; 25 more identified. Strict action underway against those disturbing public order."
