Nigeria, Sept. 20 -- The Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH) has successfully performed a total hip replacement surgery on a young man suffering from avascular necrosis of the head of the femur caused by sickle cell disease. The landmark procedure, conducted on Saturday, was described by the Yobe State Commissioner for Health, Dr Muhammad Lawan Gana, as a major breakthrough in orthopaedic healthcare in the region.
