Nigeria, Feb. 25 -- Speaking in an interview on Arise News on Wednesday monitored by The News Chronicle, Tanko said security arrangements by the Edo State Government were inadequate despite prior notice of the visit.
"The attackers followed us to the house. They wanted to assassinate Peter Obi. There were people who were obviously trailing us," Tanko said.
He stated that the security team engaged the attackers in a shootout near the residence of former Edo State governor Adigun Oyegun, allowing the delegation to escape.
The incident comes months after Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo warned that Obi must obtain security clearance before visiting the state.
