The former Speaker of the House of Representatives pointed to persistent internal crises, leadership disputes, and widening divisions within the PDP as reasons for his departure, noting that the conflicts had eroded the party's unity and direction.

"I am grateful to the PDP for the opportunities it afforded me to serve Nigeria-as Speaker of the House and as Governor of Sokoto State. However, the current state of internal disarray makes continued membership untenable," Tambuwal said.
