Nigeria, Aug. 23 -- For millions of young girls across low-income communities, managing monthly periods with dignity remains an exhausting struggle against severe economic hardship and persistent societal stigma. Dr Chukwubundom Nwobodo, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Medical Officer at General Hospital, Ebutte-Meta, described period poverty as inadequate access to menstrual products, hygiene facilities, waste disposal and education needed to manage menstruation safely, hygienically and with dignity.He said it arose from poverty, poor infrastructure, including clean water and private toilets, expensive products, taxes on menstrual items and social stigma surrounding menstruation.
