Nigeria, June 22 -- The command's spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Awka.

Ikenga said police operatives attached to the Okpoko Divisional Police Headquarters recovered the lifeless infants following a tip-off from members of the public.

According to him, the bodies were discovered in a drainage channel along Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, Okpoko, in the early hours of Sunday.

"Following the report, operatives immediately swung into action, secured the scene, gathered vital evidence and commenced investigations.
