Nigeria, May 28 -- In a statement on Tuesday, Obi said his heart remained heavy and troubled as many Nigerian children have continued to languish in kidnappers' dens for years while the nation moves on.

The former Anambra State governor said it was heartbreaking that the images of some abducted children were still circulating on social media long after their disappearance, with little progress made toward securing their freedom.

"A nation that cannot protect its children from criminals has little but shame to present to the global community," Obi said.
