Nigeria, March 18 -- In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 17, by the Council's Secretary, Frank Irabor, the council said Adelaja entered the palace without obtaining prior approval and engaged in conduct that caused "significant embarrassment and a breach of the peace within the palace grounds."

The council stated that the palace "is not a public thoroughfare or a location for frivolous content creation," adding that it remains "the ancient and spiritual seat of the Oba of Benin, governed by centuries of tradition, custom, and sacred protocols."

According to the statement, Adelaja had earlier been invited to appear before a committee of chiefs to explain the circumstances surrounding his visit but had not complied.
