Nigeria, March 19 -- In a public notice dated March 18, 2026, the zoo authorities confirmed that all gates to the facility will remain closed throughout the festive period, effectively cancelling the usual celebrations held during Eid.

According to the statement, the decision was taken in response to recent security challenges affecting Maiduguri and surrounding areas, with the safety of visitors and staff cited as the top priority.

The management emphasised that the temporary closure is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing any potential risks during the celebrations.

Despite the disruption, the zoo extended warm Eid greetings to residents and urged the public to remain vigilant and celebrate responsibly.
