Nigeria, Sept. 28 -- An early morning gas explosion caused panic at Liberty Junction in Kubwa, Abuja, on Sunday after a vehicle reportedly crashed into a gas retail outlet, triggering a fire that spread to nearby businesses.

The incident occurred at about 6:15 a.m., sending residents, traders and motorists scrambling for safety as thick smoke and flames engulfed parts of the busy commercial area.

At least nine shops were affected by the fire, while the vehicle involved was completely burnt.

The driver and a young child were rescued from the scene. The injured driver was subsequently taken to a medical facility for treatment. His current condition was not immediately known.
