Nigeria, Aug. 17 -- American actress Hayden Panettiere, best known for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, has died at the age of 36.

Her father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed her death in a statement issued on behalf of the family, while appealing for privacy as they mourn the loss.

"It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden," he said, describing the actress as "an incredible light and a force of nature" who brought love and joy to those around her and millions of fans.
