Bangladesh, Sept. 27 -- The water level of the Teesta River has risen significantly due to heavy rainfall over the past two days and an onrush of water from upstream, sparking fears of short-term flooding in low-lying areas of Lalmonirhat district.

Sunil Kumar, Executive Engineer of Lalmonirhat WDB, said water levels are expected to rise further over the next day or two, increasing the risk of localized flooding.

According to the Water Development Board (WDB), water flow at the Teesta Barrage's Dalia point in Hatibandha upazila was recorded at 52.11 meters at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, flowing four centimeters below the danger mark of 52.15 meters.
