Bangladesh, Sept. 29 -- A total of 250 kilograms of fish fingerlings were released into the Parliament Bhaban Lake on Monday as part of an ongoing nationwide initiative to increase fish production and meet the protein needs of the people.

Speaking at the fish-release programme, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, MP, said fish farming in the country's open and closed water bodies was an important initiative to meet people's protein requirements.

He said Bangladesh's coastal areas and the Bay of Bengal were particularly important for fish production and harvesting.

The Speaker made the remarks as the chief guest while releasing fish fingerlings into the lake at the Parliament complex.
