Bangladesh, Sept. 6 -- The 17th death anniversary of former finance and planning minister M Saifur Rahman has been observed on Saturday.

Various programmes were organised to mark the occasion by the M Saifur Rahman Memorial Council, the late leader's family and his political party, the BNP.

On Saturday the Memorial Council and the family paid tribute at his ancestral home in Baharmardan, Sadar Upazila, through Quran recitation and the laying of floral wreaths at his grave.

Subsequently, a Milad and Dua Mahfil (religious gathering and prayer) was held, followed by the distribution of Shirni (traditional offerings).
