Bangladesh, July 28 -- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday sought the cooperation of newspaper editors in the government's ongoing efforts to formulate a policy aimed at ensuring an independent media and safeguarding journalists.

He made the call during a meeting with leaders of the National Editors' Council at his office in the Cabinet Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to the Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Md. Suzauddhowla (Sujan Mahmud).

During the meeting, the Prime Minister urged editors to continue providing constructive criticism while also highlighting the government's positive initiatives so that the public remains informed about measures being taken in the national interest.
