Bangladesh, July 14 -- The government will investigate allegations of irregularities and cost escalation in the construction of model mosques across the country, with inquiries to be conducted on a mosque-by-mosque basis, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad told Parliament on Monday.

Responding to a supplementary question during the question-and-answer session, the minister said the government would instruct the relevant ministry to examine how the estimated construction cost of each model mosque increased from Tk 13 crore to Tk 21 crore.

"Other government agencies may also be involved in this inquiry," he said. Salahuddin answered the question on behalf of Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad.
