Bangladesh, Oct. 2 -- The BNP-led government is taking a tougher approach to law and order amid growing concern over recent incidents of land grabbing, assaults, vandalism and other crimes, while also tightening scrutiny of police personnel accused of indiscipline or unauthorised political contacts.

The government says maintaining stability and public safety is a priority and that offenders will not receive political protection.

Speaking at a press conference at the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday, PMO spokesperson and adviser Mahdi Amin said the government wanted a fair legal system and would act "with utmost sincerity" against wrongdoing.
