Bonded yarn seized in N'ganj
Bangladesh, Oct. 6 -- Customs officials have seized 80-count yarn worth around Tk 5 crore from a warehouse in Araihazar, Narayanganj, allegedly imported under the bonded warehouse facility without payment of VAT and other duties.
The yarn was stored in sacks and cartons bearing markings including "CHINA ORIGIN" and "CM80S/1". Jahangir, 55, owner of the warehouse and the yarn, was detained during the operation.
Confirming the seizure around 6pm on Sunday, Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sabjel Hossain said the seized yarn and Jahangir were in police custody.
"Customs officials and representatives of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) are currently working at the site. Police are assisting them.
