Bangladesh, Feb. 24 -- State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain and National Citizen Party (NCP) Spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan both have expressed their intention to contest the upcoming mayoral election of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), setting the stage for a competitive race.

"InshaaAllah, I will contest the city election from Dhaka South," he wrote on his verified Facebook page. The last mayoral election for Dhaka South City Corporation was held on 1 February 2020 amid widespread allegations of irregularities and rigging. Ishraque was the BNP candidate in that election.
