Bangladesh, March 12 -- Ahmed Azam Khan, vice chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was sworn in as a minister on Thursday.
Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office at the presidential office.
Ahmed Azam Khan currently serves as a member of parliament representing the Tangail-8 constituency. His induction into the cabinet is expected to be followed by the assignment of a specific portfolio as he begins his duties in the current administration.
Earlier in the day, senior BNP lawmaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed was elected Speaker of parliament, while Kayser Kamal was elected Deputy Speaker.
The newly elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker later took their oaths, administered by President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
