Bangladesh, June 30 -- Bangladesh recorded its highest single-day dengue death toll of the year as five people died from the mosquito-borne disease in the 24 hours between 8am Saturday and 8am Sunday.

During the same period, 124 new dengue patients were hospitalised across the country, according to a press release issued by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Sunday.

Among the new patients, 37 were reported in Barishal division, 28 in Chattogram, 14 in Khulna, eight in Rajshahi, two in Dhaka division and two in Mymensingh - all outside the respective city corporation areas.
