Bangladesh, Sept. 27 -- Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni has called for greater research and innovation in zoology and biological sciences to protect biodiversity and promote sustainable development.

Moni said biological sciences were closely connected with food, the environment and human life.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a general meeting organised by the Zoological Society of Bangladesh at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban in Dhaka on Saturday.

"Food security depends directly on plants and animals, while fish, meat and plant-based foods are essential for human nutrition and livelihoods," he said.
