India, Oct. 22 -- A 42-year-old woman who was allegedly set on fire by her stepson in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district died of her burn injuries at a hospital on Thursday, officials said.

The incident took place in the Housing Colony area of Udhampur on Wednesday evening, when the accused allegedly poured petrol on Sushma Devi and set her ablaze, they said, as per news agency KNS.

Devi was initially taken to a hospital in Udhampur. However, given her critical condition, she was referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, for specialised treatment.

She later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, officials said.

Police have arrested the accused and registered a case in connection with the incident.
